In a world torn apart by the fury of nature,
drowned by the oceans around us,
subject to the elements,
bearing the brunt of your sins,
your tragedy...
We survive.

||EDIT|| please note that the podcat in the pic is actually a kitten hence the difference in stature xD alot of you will guess but I just want to clarify! ||/edit||
This one took me a hellova long time to finish. I actually abandoned the picture for about a month as I was stuck in a rut on the background colouring technique.
Not going for real realistic here :} just my own style.
I was inspired and given a creative jump start by *kaleadora and ~Okami-Kodokuna by their wonderful podcat artworks done recently: [link][link]
Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see my brainchild species wondering the artwork of DA. Quite frankly if people draw podcats I usually get inspired to.. so if you want to see more podcats from me -winkwinknudgenudge-.
Bear in mind with this picture that the evoloution of the podcats is set way in the future when the polar icecaps have melted and alot of the world's landmass has been lost to the seas. The weather is still in chaos from the magnitude of the change. Many species have died out and more have evolved to cope making new animals to make use of their surroundings.
After the great war with the humans the podcats reign supreme at the top of the food chain. Pockets of humanity surviving here and there still eking out an existance.
oh Holly I always admire how much depth and care you give your backgrounds (instead of primarily concentrating on the character and then sticking him or her in some vague, impressionism-done-badly scene, like yours truly). your pictures always feel so complete and beautiful. I love that one heliconia-type flower there. the feeling of distance is really astonishing to me.
BAH I have said I would make a podcat for nigh on three years. x.x; I WILL GET AROUND TO IT. *stamps away, decisive finger in air*

I'm reading Brave New World right now; it's terrific.
So is this piece. The vantage point is breathtaking, and I really like how you set up the composition. Excellent work on the shading... I kind of want to draw a podcat now.
Wonderful depth with the background, and the small, but nicely done details (flower, ferns, lay of the fur, etc.) really add to it. I get a really good feel for how the image came about... The podcat just walking through a forest, it opens up a bit on this scene and it stops to watch. Fantastic piece!
First off, everyone here at deviantART would like to say THANK YOU!!! We have received an overwhelming amount of enthusiasm for the launch of version 6 and believe that this has been our best-received launch to date.

`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More

Kind of scary. But I guess it could happen.
Makes me glad I'm a dragon. ;D
But wow. I'm loving the perspective, and the waterspout is just awesome. I wonder who--I mean, what could have caused that?
-cough- xD
Seriously, though, this is one awesome picture.
