Not gonna post all that much here cause im feeling very sick atm, but this is my first successful attempt at a realistic looking version of Doom. I always used to draw my horses soooo cartoony looking. You can say I was heavily inspired to do this because of 's fantastic horse renderings. [link] was my last attempt at doom and you can see alot of difference in anatomy and whatnot. Iv subtly changed his design to suit more of a clydesdale/shire musculature because I always envisioned him as a VERY heavy horse. Immeasurably strong. Also a slight edit to his mane, I like showing it a bit rougher because he hates it long and tears it out himself or scrapes away at it against rough rocks till it tears off in chunks. Leaving a rather ragged ill kept ridge of mane. Despite hardcore referencing real horse photos for both pics I know theres alot of anatomical weirdness in there. I was never the best at horse anatomy. The pelt shine also is rather off to me, I didn't quite get the technique right that iv seen alot of other realistic horse artists use. Added feathers to his ankles in true clydey fashion. they just look right. Oh and his tail hair has always been stunted and short like that.
oops typed more than I intended to!
his design is based on an old badly made horse soft toy I bought. I was enamored with it because the nostrils were so badly made and on the wrong side of the muzzle it looked like he had fangs. Thracian warhorses were sent by the Greek god Dionysus to provide his faithful soldiers with meat hungry battle-lusting mounts.
It's weird to see an angry horse! evil pony! I adore the shading on his neck, where it meets the leg, yet I have the feeling the head is way too big against the lenght of the spine. But horses are not my strenght and some of the real ones look like martians to me
