Artist's Comments~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Before Critiquing PLEASE NOTE - the character is inbetween an anthro and feral form, the anthro wolf form turning into a fantasy feral form: [link] Just wanted to make sure you know that before gunning down the anatomy heheh. I could use some color/shades crit because this is a new coloring style I am developing. Commission for teh lovely ~nyghtwulf! She requeste her anthro wolf fursona mid-shift into a druid cat (world of warcraft) [link] to celebrate the new game skin coming out I presume hehe. I went for a more dynamic pose than I usually do for my TF's and am incredibly happy with the depth of the picture but not too sure about the coloring. Night elf cat form © Blizzard entertainment. |

I recommend make them slightly smaller and/or shifting them slightly. I think the thing that really makes them so unecessarily attention grabbing is the fact that the whole pose is off balance. You seem to have a very interesting and fluid S-type composition with the front of the body twisting in one direction and the tail flipping in the other. It's very intriguing in those two areas, but then you look at the thighs and buttocks to see that the weight there is perfectly balanced... you see what I'm saying? Neither leg is doing anything, both knees are resting perfectly on the ground and that whole area is generally boring and lacks the character and dynamic-ness (if that's even a word XD) of the other parts of the image.
So I feel like putting the legs, thighs and hip area a little more off center, with more weight being on one or the other, might allow them to fit into the pose a little better.
Also, as a note about shading since you mentioned this, some brighter highlights might do the lighting some good as well. Right now, this image feels a little flat. Now, this might be my opinion of art talking, as I am a sucker for action, drama and dramatic lighting but, I don't think you'd being doing any harm in adding some stronger highlights. I just feel like the front of the body needs to feel more like it's coming at the viewer and less like it's moving down the page, you know? The closer something is to the viewer, the more detailed it will be. So some extra highlights, particularly at the front of the body, might do it some good in drawing attention to the face where it needs to be. Also, it might help to bring out that arm that is cloaked in shadow. I do admit that I like the feel of the lighting and shadows in this image, it seems like this critter is sort of... melding into the shadows, which seems fitting for a night elf druid. But I still feel like the shadows should be less present at the front of the body, that part that is closest to the viewer. Because something that is closer to us should be easier to see, yes?
Also, I find the white teeth a little glaring. Perhaps some more shadows on them as well might help to silence them a little? If you'd like to consider that minor detail. X3
For the record though, I REALLY love the palette you used here. The pastel purples and greens... You hardly ever see people use a completely secondary color scheme now a days. It's quite attractive here. :3 Overall, I have to say that I like it. It has a lot of character.
