I was recently browsing the petstore and I talked to the lady who bred their ratties, I wanted to know why she only had females on offer (myself being very loving of the fat lazy men rats) and she said most people who buy rats around here don't want males because of their larger size and huge testicles....
I thought that was a very bad misinformed decision on her part but I don't think that she was a breeder for love of rats. She was apparently making a big profit selling her litters frozen for a wild bird sanctuary. </3
Anyway being the poor breeder she is, while I was feeling up her naked female ratties, (i'd never felt one before!) She mentioned she had actually found a 5week old male hairless left in with the girls while his litter mates were destroyed. She told me she was going to have to take those females off sale incase they were pregnant and she was going to freeze the male as soon as possible.

GWUH!?!?

Well shit.. I begged her not to kill him and told her i'd take him off her hands and give him a loving home. When she first brought him in she brought another male she found seperate too. The one she told me about was desperately skinny, male peachfuzz mock hairless and another almost twice as old PEW hairless with a blind eye, BOTH had diarrhea and sniffles. I was kind of appalled that both were in such a state and she told me to pick one. I couldn't with all good conscious throw the older, disabled and sickly looking one in with my boisterous boys.. so I said i'd take the original one she told me about. Though I insisted she put him in with a mom-rat to get fed up a bit better because I honestly wasn't sure if he would survive. HE WAS THAT SKINNY.
Saturday I picked him up, hes felt more filled oute and seemed a little healthier but he was also sneezing alot (I had him in quarantine but it was probably just allergies to the crap bedding she had him on) possibly an onset of Myco. He is friendly enough and bruxed after a while of me cuddling and stroking him. Hes a touch hand shy and very jumpy at noises, his eyes are black but I have a suspicion his eyesight isn't very good.
I literally had to nurse him back to health before I could introduce him to my boys.

Now hes doing great and getting a little more confidant! Getting bigger and sleeping under huge furry man-rat piles.
